Having not fished any SCAC waters since the end of March it was time again to get the carp rods out. Having spent the previous Friday afternoon on Whitefriars, on a casting tuition, I decided that Dabchick may offer me a chance of a bite and allow me to continue what I had learnt on Friday due to Dabchick offering open water swims.
On the Monday I settled in a swim about midway, straight up from the car park, and found a silty spot at about 55yrds. Anyhow it took 24hrs to get my first take, a small carp of about a pound, then 2hrs later a small tench. I sat this swim out until early Wednesday morning with no other activity so moved to Ham Pool.
I settled in a swim known as The Chickens and pretty quickly spotted signs of where the fish were feeding. Again it took a while for a take but at 7am Thursday morning the line slowly pulled tight and out of the clip on my right hand rod. I lifted into the fish and was disappointed, as it felt like a bream, however at about 20yrds out the fish came to life and fought well. 10mins later a lovely clean common at 21lb 12oz sat sulking in the net. Result, I’ve spent 6years fishing SCAC waters and this is my first 20lb plus carp on these waters and my first carp from Ham Pool.
